Former Russian Deputy Chief Gets Detained
(MENAFN) Colonel General Viktor Strigunov, who held the position of first deputy chief of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) from 2020 to 2023, has reportedly been apprehended under allegations involving corruption and financial misconduct.
In an official announcement on Monday, Russia’s Investigative Committee revealed that a legal case had been initiated.
This move follows a collaborative probe carried out by the Committee itself, the Federal Security Service (FSB), and Rosgvardiya’s internal security unit.
One of the alleged unlawful incidents being investigated reportedly occurred before Rosgvardiya was established in 2016, during Strigunov’s tenure with the Russian Interior Ministry.
Prosecutors assert that in 2014, Strigunov supervised a construction project for a proposed training facility in the Kemerovo Region.
Despite being "well aware of severe limitations" that would hinder the center’s proper use, he allegedly instructed his staff to continue with the development, according to the Committee.
“As a result, the terms of the contract were not fulfilled [and] the training center was not put into operation, which resulted in a loss of more than 2 billion rubles (USD25 million) to the state,” the Investigative Committee stated.
