Russian Airstrike on Kyiv Claims Two Lives, Injures 16
“Sadly, two people were reported killed in Kyiv — my condolences to their families and loved ones,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on X. He confirmed that 16 others sustained injuries in the strike.
Zelenskyy detailed that the large-scale attack involved 18 missiles—including ballistic types—and approximately 400 drones. The offensive also targeted multiple regions beyond the capital.
Describing the strike as a “clear escalation of terror,” Zelenskyy reiterated his demand for more decisive international sanctions against Moscow.
“There’s a need for quicker action from our partners in investing in weapons production and advancing technology,” he added. Zelenskyy also announced plans to consult with Ukraine’s allies later in the day regarding expanded funding for drone interceptor production and enhanced air defense system deliveries.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said via Telegram that six of Kyiv’s districts were impacted. He noted the strikes damaged both residential and non-residential infrastructure.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 10 of the injured victims required hospitalization following the assault.
Ukraine’s Air Force later claimed on Telegram that its defense systems successfully intercepted 164 of the 397 drones and 14 of the 18 missiles launched by Russian forces during the nighttime bombardment.
As of now, Russian officials have not responded to the allegations.
