Minivan hit child, woman in wheelchair at Native American festival
City spokeswoman Michelle Moyer told a news agency that the victims were taken to the hospital in unknown condition. She explained that the driver “went around and through barriers blocking traffic,” striking a woman in a wheelchair and a child. A public works employee was also injured while attempting to stop the vehicle.
A news agency reported that the minivan traveled six blocks before coming to a stop. Authorities have taken the driver into custody.
The incident occurred along Front Street, where food trucks, vendors, and carnival game booths had been set up. The reason the van entered the closed street remains unclear.
