Irish actor Liam Cunningham calls out Israel, saying its blockade is “medieval”
(MENAFN) Irish actor Liam Cunningham has joined an international flotilla seeking to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and challenge Israel’s blockade, describing the restrictions as a “medieval siege” and calling on the global community to take action.
Cunningham, widely recognized for his role in Game of Thrones, is participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian mission comprising over 300 people from 44 countries. The flotilla departed from Barcelona on Sunday, aiming to both deliver humanitarian supplies and confront the blockade imposed on Gaza.
“I am a human being and I don’t want to see other human beings treated the way the Palestinians are,” Cunningham told Anadolu prior to departure.
The actor, who has also appeared in Titanic, The Mummy, and The Irishman, drew parallels between Israel’s blockade and historical British oppression in Ireland. “The killing at the moment is much more efficient, to use that horrific word,” he said. “This is an attempt to break the blockade, break this medieval siege. It's like something from 500 years ago in a castle.”
Cunningham also criticized what he called the political cowardice surrounding Gaza. “It feels like I’ve landed in a strange, unfamiliar world, and the cowardice of politicians makes me nauseous,” he said.
