Canadian PM Participates in Coalition Meeting on Ukraine Security
(MENAFN) Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney participated in a virtual meeting on Thursday of the Coalition of the Willing, a group co-chaired by France’s President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, according to a statement released by his office.
"Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, participated in a virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing chaired by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Keir Starmer, alongside the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy," the statement read.
The meeting centered on discussions about long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, during which Carney reaffirmed Canada’s strong commitment to the Coalition and emphasized the country's readiness to offer direct and flexible military support aimed at achieving a ceasefire and ensuring lasting peace.
The statement also highlighted that Carney and other coalition leaders welcomed the United States' willingness to support these efforts, aiming to ensure long-term peace and security for both Ukraine and Europe.
Carney underscored the importance of continuing economic pressure on Russia, adding that coalition members agreed on "the need to maintain multilateral economic pressure on Russia to end its aggression."
