Medvedev Dismisses European War Speculations
On Monday, Medvedev emphasized that such speculation “should not happen,” asserting that it contradicts Russia’s strategic goals.
Using his Telegram platform, Medvedev declared that “Russia does not need a war with anyone in principle, including with the frigid old Europe. There is nothing to gain there.”
He emphasized that Moscow has no interest in engaging in military confrontation with the European continent, which he described in unflattering terms.
He went further to criticize the current state of Europe, claiming its economic foundation is “weak and dependent on the US.”
Additionally, he accused the continent of “losing its identity, dissolving into aggressive migrants,” suggesting that internal social tensions are eroding its traditional structures.
Medvedev also dismissed the possibility of European countries initiating a conflict, describing them as “vulnerable and divided.”
He implied that these internal divisions and frailties reduce the likelihood of Europe acting independently in a military capacity.
Despite minimizing the chance of deliberate conflict, Medvedev did issue a warning about “the likelihood of a fatal accident,” noting that any unintended escalation could spiral into the deployment of weapons of mass destruction.
A former Russian president from 2008 to 2012, Medvedev has frequently delivered combative rhetoric toward Western powers during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
His latest comments come amid intensified debate within Europe concerning military budgets and defense readiness, as highlighted by recent reports from media outlets.
