Hamas Dismisses Disarmament Claims as “Fabricated”
Earlier in the day, various news outlets, citing unnamed sources, claimed the group had consented to transfer its weapons to a Palestinian-Egyptian authority under international oversight and had notified the US of this decision.
Yet, Hamas swiftly dismissed these narratives as “fabricated claims,” emphasizing that its stance is expressed exclusively through official communication channels.
“What was published is baseless and aims to distort the position and confuse public opinion,” the group declared in an official statement.
Just days prior, on Friday, Hamas showed partial acceptance of Trump’s ceasefire plan, agreeing in principle to release surviving Israeli hostages, return the remains of those killed, and hand over Gaza’s governance to “a Palestinian body of independents.”
Although disarmament was not explicitly mentioned, senior official Mousa Abu Marzook clarified the group’s position during an interview with media, stating, “The group will only ‘hand over weapons to the coming Palestinian state, and whoever governs Gaza will have weapons in their hands.’”
