Gaza’s Displaced Palestinians Struggle Against Heavy Rainfall
A correspondent from a news agency reported that water seeped into parts of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, particularly affecting the reception and emergency departments, disrupting daily operations.
Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest medical facility in the Gaza Strip, had already suffered extensive damage from numerous Israeli strikes during two years of conflict. Efforts by Gaza’s Health Ministry to rehabilitate the hospital after the ceasefire have been hampered by Israel’s obstruction of essential equipment entry.
Witnesses told the news agency that the strong winds accompanying the rainfall since Monday evening also flooded and damaged thousands of tents housing displaced people.
"We woke up with the sound of strong winds hitting our tent. We tried to secure it and hold on to it, but the winds uprooted the tent, and all our belongings flew away,” Palestinian Khaled Abdel Aziz told the news agency.
“I'm outside with my wife and children, sitting in the rain. There is nowhere to shelter," Abdel Aziz added.
Hundreds of Palestinians reportedly sought refuge from the rain under remnants of buildings destroyed by the Israeli army in Gaza City, according to eyewitness accounts.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Maha Abu Jazar was seen frantically running with her three children after rainwater entirely submerged her tent in the Al-Mawasi neighborhood, located west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
