Sharif, Bin Salman Review Mediation Efforts

(MENAFN) Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, held talks on Wednesday in Jeddah with Mohammed bin Salman, focusing on Islamabad’s role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran. Also attending the meeting was Ishaq Dar.

The discussion, which lasted close to two hours, centered largely on the broader regional landscape. During the exchange, Sharif conveyed Pakistan’s unity with and backing of Saudi Arabia in light of "the recent regional escalation," as stated in an official release issued by his office.

Sharif further outlined "the recent developments related to Pakistan's peace efforts that led to the US- Iran ceasefire and the recently held round of historic talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad." His remarks highlighted Islamabad’s diplomatic involvement in easing tensions and promoting negotiations between the two countries.

In response, Bin Salman commended Pakistan’s positive and constructive contribution to advancing the peace initiative, according to the same statement.

The Pakistani premier also conveyed "his sincere appreciation" for Saudi Arabia's "consistent support to Pakistan's economic stability" while addressing matters of mutual cooperation and bilateral relations.

These statements followed remarks by Muhammad Aurangzeb, who confirmed late Tuesday that Saudi Arabia had committed to extending $3 billion in financial aid to Islamabad. This assistance aims to help ease pressure on the country’s fragile foreign reserves as it manages debt repayments owed to the United Arab Emirates.
