Lebanon Denies Reports of Planned Call with Israel

(MENAFN) Lebanese officials have rejected reports that a phone call is scheduled between the Lebanese presidency and Israel, saying they have no confirmation of such communication despite statements suggesting otherwise from US officials.

Two Lebanese sources told a media outlet that there is currently “no information” indicating any planned call between the Lebanese presidency and the Israeli side.

The denial comes after US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Washington was working to reduce tensions between Israel and Lebanon and suggested that direct talks between the two sides could take place for the first time in decades.

Trump also indicated that such a call could happen imminently, referring to a long gap in direct contact between the leaderships of both countries.

Separately, a recent meeting at the US State Department reportedly brought together Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors, with senior US officials in attendance, as part of diplomatic efforts to address regional tensions. Representatives linked to Hezbollah were not present and have opposed such developments.

In Israel, Science Minister Gila Gamliel said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to hold a phone conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, although senior Israeli officials have not confirmed the claim.
