US Jobless Claims Decline More Than Expected Last Week
Economists had projected a smaller drop to around 213,000, down from the prior week’s revised figure of 218,000.
The four-week moving average edged slightly higher to 209,750, up by 500 from the previous week’s adjusted level of 209,250.
In broader labor market indicators, the US economy added 178,000 jobs in March, significantly exceeding expectations of 65,000 new positions.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate fell to 4.3% in March, down from 4.4% in February.
