Ancient Celtic Elite Burial Unearthed in Germany

(MENAFN) Archaeologists in Germany have identified an ancient Celtic burial believed to belong to a high-ranking individual who lived more than 2,000 years ago. Experts consider the find exceptionally important due to the rare collection of artifacts discovered within the grave.

The tomb was located near the town of Bad Camberg in the state of Hesse during archaeological assessments conducted ahead of the construction of a planned solar energy facility. According to officials, this is the first known Celtic princely burial to be uncovered as part of investigations connected to a solar park project.

Excavations revealed several valuable objects, including gold rings, fragments of weapons, and an Etruscan beaked jug that is thought to have been brought from what is now Tuscany in Italy, indicating possible long-distance trade connections.

Researchers also found evidence of a two-wheeled wagon buried with the deceased. Among the remains were metal components associated with the vehicle, including fittings from the wheel hubs and axle ends, along with iron elements from the wagon’s tires.

Based on the artifacts and burial characteristics, experts believe the person interred in the tomb was most likely a man.

The discovery provides new evidence supporting "the previously only assumed presence of a local Celtic elite."

Archaeologists estimate the burial dates back to the middle of the first millennium BC and associate it with the Hunsruck-Eifel cultural group, which occupied parts of Central Europe during the Celtic period.
